A born and bred Texan, Jim Largent grew up in a small town where he learned the value of a good education and individual responsibility.
Dr. Largent attended Lamar University and earned masters and doctoral degrees from Sam Houston State University. He began his career coaching high school football and baseball, and teaching in the classroom. He later became a trusted school principal and superintendent.
Currently the Superintendent of Granbury ISD, Largent is widely recognized for his civic and school leadership, and involvement in the community. Largent has been nominated for “Superintendent of the Year” honors four times and is Chairman-elect of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce.
Under Largent’s leadership, Granbury High School was named among the top 10% of high schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. He worked to improve schools safety and create new programs to prepare students for college and the job market, including an innovative program in aviation where high school students constructed an RV-12 airplane.
“I have spent my professional life serving our neighbors and working to give our kids a school system of which we can be proud. My faith in Jesus and my conservative values call me to stand in the gap, advocate for our children, defend our traditional values, and champion local control so that we can solve our own problems without big government interference.”
- Jim Largent
Largent is a passionate believer in protecting small-town Texas, taking our voice back from the powerful elites, and defending traditional Texas values of hard work, independence, and local control.
Active in the community, Largent has served as a Director of the Granbury Chamber of Commerce since 2014 and will take over as Chairman next year. He is a board member of the Granbury Education Foundation, Lake Granbury Medical Center, and numerous Texas school associations.
Largent will challenge one-term representative Mike Lang in the March 6th Republican Primary election.
Largent’s legislative priorities include a fiscally conservative budget, reducing property taxes, supporting public schools and teachers, defending the right to life and the Second Amendment, and border security and public safety.
Largent is married to Jeri Ellen, an educational diagnostician. Together, they have two children, Justin and Jaci, who are both graduates of Granbury High School. Largent and his family are active members at the First United Methodist Church in Granbury.
Too many politicians today are taking marching orders from powerful special interests and no longer represent the people who elected them. When politicians care more about pleasing a handful of wealthy elites than standing up for their districts, communities like ours lose our representation. I’m running for State Representative to take it back.
